On January 1, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing enslaved people in the  Southern states. It was not until May 20, 1865, that the state of Florida was finally freed and the Emancipation Proclamation was actually in effect.
 
  • Join this family-friendly historic celebration filled with community tribute, vendors, food, entertainment, and festivities.
  • No cost to participate.
  • Includes activities for children such as storytelling, poetry, flower making, coloring, jacks, watercolor paintings, and more.
  • – Celebration Ceremony 12:00 PM includes the reading of the Emancipation Proclamation.

Take a journey through our rich history passing through some incredible historic buildings and communities to celebrate Florida’s Emancipation Date.

  • The bike ride will begin & end at the Historic Hopper Academy at 8:00 AM – back in time to join the celebration!
  • Every registered rider will receive a complimentary Ride to Freedom t-shirt, snack & drinks before and during rides (sag stops), and lunch at Hopper’s Academy.
